Somehow these sweet pups are already 5 weeks old. We have been very busy here and I haven't had time to send out "pupdates".
Right when these little ones were born, we were driving all over Texas with our 2 boys while they played their last few games of high school football. The games were all 2-4 hours away. Football season came to an end and it felt like Thanksgiving was just the next day, even though several weeks in between. This holiday season snuck up on us and I can't believe only 3 more weeks until these big girls are 8 weeks old and ready for their own families.
Updates:
For the last several weeks we have been doing grooming desensitization. We started around 2 weeks old with clipper vibrations and trimmed their faces at 3.5 and 4.5 weeks old. They have done incredibly well. Today they will have their first bath/blow dry and we will start getting them used to being on a table to be groomed.
We also added a litter box with pellets, and for the most part, these smart girls are making it in the box about 90% of the time. Soon, we will go outside to potty and hopefully have the tray completely removed within the next couple of weeks, weather permitting.
We have introduced our pups to loud noises, toys, dog beds, kennels, and toddlers.
My nieces, ages 3-7, came over to stay the weekend and were super excited to see the pups. These toddlers held them, picked them up, brushed them, had their hands all over them, and played with them for 3 straight days. Everyone was completely supervised of course, but it's a great introduction for our pups, especially since many go to growing families.
Around 4 weeks old we introduced puppy mush, which they loved, and have been eating very well ever since.
For the next several weeks, we will continue to groom them, introduce them to car rides, start kennel training, and work on simple obedience with lots of praise. Soon, we will introduce them to our other dogs and all the elements of the outside world: day, night, rain, thunder, cold, and the sounds of chickens, goats, and horses. We are all about farm life here at Miller Creek.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday.
If you are interested in one of our sweet girls, please send us a message. They will be ready the day before Christmas Eve. These sweet girls are extremely playful and love being around us. Here are just a few photos from the last few weeks.
